Fun With Words

Have fun with this word sheet of words that end in “og”.

Let’s take a journey into the world of the

Poison dart frog.

* * * * *
Did you know…
* Their scientific name is Dendrobatidae. What a long word for such a tiny frog.
* There are about 200 different species.
* They can live up to 10 years in captivity.
* They are only about 2 inches long.
* They live in the tropical forests of Central and South America.
* Native tribes use toxins that comes off of the frog's skin to make their darts poisonous. That's how they got their name.
* They like to eat insects.

Our second frog for the week is the

African Bullfrog.
This is one of the largest frogs in the world.

* * * * *
Did you know…
* Their scientific name is Pyxicephalus adspersus. Pyxie frogs are what most people call them. Kind of a strange nick name since they are some of the largest frogs in the world.
* They can grow up to 9 ½ inches long and weigh in at 4 ½ pounds.
* They live in Southern African savannas.
* During the dry season, they bury themselves underground and make a cocoon so they don’t dry out and die. When the rains come again, the water goes down through the ground and soaks the cocoon. The frog wakes up, eats it’s cocoon then goes up above ground again.
* They eat anything they can fit in their mouths including other frogs, scorpions, birds, snakes and insects.
